Gibson Vintage 1978 Hollowbody ES-335TD Wine Red w/ OHSC Kalamazoo

£3,795.00Price

Vintage 1978 Wine Red Gibson ES 335TD. This beautiful old 335 was built in Gibson’s Kalamazoo factory, Michigan back in 1978. It’s a stunning dark wine red that looks almost ebony in certain light. The condition is very clean all over. Some subtle vintage ageing all over the plastics with the white binding has turned a nice vintage yellow (almost orange) which looks fantastic. The nitrocellulose finish is very thin and in particularly good condition, with some very fine finish checking checking, there is no buckle rash on the back. It plays beautifully with a nice medium action, you can feel the resonant old growth wood. All gentle ageing nothing harsh at all. The vintage three peice neck is dead straight truss rod checked and functioning fine, plenty of life left in the frets. It has mother of pearl block inlays and the headstock inlays have turned almost gold over the decades. The neck pickup has been replaced with a Gibson '57 Classic humbucker and the bridge humbucker is the original Tar Back. Combined they both sound superb, you can get some great vintage bluesy and rock tones out of them. There is a coil tap switch on the front horn as was standard on this model. There have been no breaks or repairs. Obviously considering he age there are some scratches and scuffs visible. Plays and sounds great with a comfortable three piece ’59 profile neck. The lines are visible in the three-piece neck in the nitro as is usual on these vintage Gibsons, but the neck is structuarly solid. Guitar is nicely balanced & weighs in at a nice light 3.5kg. It is complete with its original vintage Gibson hardcase, Case is functioning fine, with all latches working. One minute of playing this & you get why Gibson’s old 335s are renowned as some of the most iconic guitars ever built. I’ll let the pics tell the rest of the story.
