Greco Very Rare Vintage 1980 Jaguar Japanese 'Super Real' Candy Apple Red

£1,595.00Price

Scarce vintage 1980 FujiGen built Greco ‘Super Real’ Jaguar in Candy Apple Red finish with matching headstock. Here is a rare example of the forerunner to the modern day Fender Japan Jaguar (JG66). Only a small number of these amazing guitars were built back in ‘79/80 by Greco as Jags & Jazzmasters were still pretty much the most unloved guitars on the planet back then. It's an incredibly well put together Jaguar as you'd imagine from FujiGen and is basically the prototype of the Fender Japan Jaguar as we know today. These were the forerunners of Fender Japan’s Jaguar production, a full 2 years before FujiGen was granted the Fender license. Most of these Greco Jags were Sunburst, only a small number of Candy Apple Reds with the matching headstocks have ever surfaced. It has an ash body, maple neck and a good quality rosewood fingerboard with very little fret wear. It 's pretty clean for one of these and the weight 4.2kg. Function and aesthetics are the same as the later Fender JG66 models. On this one the rhythm circuit on/off switch is reversed, engaging the circuit in the down position and reverting to the lead circuit in the up position. It also has an ash body instead of alder like later MIJ/CI models, a V-shaped neck profile carve, silver Rhythm Circuit rollers, a wide bevel white pickguard and flat pole pickups that have a particularly full sound. Dead straight neck, truss rod fine, plenty of life left in the frets. No issues whatsoever either electrically on structurally. A very rare guitar, especially in this finish. Complete with tremolo-arm and generic softcase.
